Are Malls Open on Christmas Day?
Most malls in the United States are closed on Christmas Day. Many retail chains also shut their doors, though some locations may open with reduced hours. Store policies vary by brand and region, so checking specific hours before visiting is recommended.
Which Stores and Malls Stay Open?
Some large shopping centers and outlet malls remain open on Christmas Day, often with shorter hours. Certain big-box retailers and grocery stores may also operate, especially in high-traffic areas. For a list of participating locations and hours, you can check the mall directory on the International Council of Shopping Centers website at https://www.icsc.org.
What to Expect on Christmas Day Shopping
When malls are open, foot traffic is usually lower than on peak shopping days. Popular stores may have limited staff and inventory, and some services like gift wrapping or food courts could be unavailable. Always confirm hours directly with the mall or store before traveling.
