Who Is Lydia's Dad in Beetlejuice?
Lydia Deetz's father in Beetlejuice is Charles Deetz, a practical and often stressed suburban father. He is a central character in the 1988 Tim Burton film and its sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Charles moves into the haunted house with his wife Delia and daughter Lydia, quickly clashing with the ghostly residents.
Who Plays Lydia's Dad?
Charles Deetz is portrayed by actor Michael Keaton. Keaton is widely recognized for his roles in films such as Batman and Birdman. His performance as the exasperated but caring father adds a grounded, comedic tone to the supernatural story. Keaton also returned for the 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
What Role Does Charles Deetz Play in the Story?
Charles Deetz serves as the everyday parent trying to hold a blended family together. He is often unaware of the supernatural chaos around him, focusing instead on work, home repairs, and financial stress. His lack of awareness contrasts with Lydia's connection to the ghost world, creating much of the film's humor and tension. For more background on the film, see the official Beetlejuice page on IMDb.
