What Is the Grammy Best New Artist Award
The Grammy Award for Best New Artist honors emerging recording artists with outstanding debut releases. The Recording Academy defines eligibility based on first commercial recordings and limited prior recognition. The award highlights artists who have achieved measurable impact within the eligibility year.
Recent Best New Artist Winners
Recent winners include Samara Joy, who received the award in 2023 for her jazz vocal debut, and Chappell Roan, recognized in 2024 for her pop breakthrough. Each winner is selected by Recording Academy voting members from a shortlist of nominees announced annually.
How the Winner Is Chosen
The Recording Academy voting members nominate and vote across genre categories. Best New Artist considers artistic achievement, commercial impact, and career trajectory during the eligibility period.
