Top Best-Selling Rap Albums Worldwide
Several rap albums have achieved multi-platinum status based on worldwide sales and certified units. Albums like "Thriller" by Michael Jackson and "Back in Black" by AC/DC are often referenced as top sellers across all genres, but dedicated rap releases such as "The Chronic" by Dr. Dre and "Life After Death" by Notorious B.I.G. have also reached massive sales milestones. These figures are typically tracked by industry bodies like the RIAA and IFPI.
How Rap Album Sales Are Measured
Sales are counted using certified units, which include physical purchases, digital downloads, and on-demand audio streams converted into equivalent units. The RIAA awards Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum certifications in the United States, while global organizations provide international benchmarks. Streaming data is converted using standardized ratios, making modern certifications a blend of traditional sales and digital consumption.
Why These Albums Remain Commercially Dominant
These albums continue to sell because of strong catalog demand, frequent reissues, and enduring cultural influence. Classic rap records maintain high streaming volumes and regular certification updates, which add to their lifetime unit totals.
