Jack Lord was born John Joseph Patrick Ryan on December 30, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before studying acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. His early stage work led to roles in television anthologies and supporting parts in 1950s films.

Breakthrough Role in Hawaii Five-O

Lord became widely known for his portrayal of Steve McGarrett in the original Hawaii Five-O series, which ran from 1968 to 1980. He was one of the show's executive producers and helped shape its tone, emphasizing professional police procedure and location shooting.
