Can You Bring Water Through TSA Security?
You can bring an empty reusable water bottle through TSA checkpoints in both carry-on and checked bags. If the bottle is empty, it can pass screening without issue. You can also buy water after security and bring it on the plane.
Can You Bring a Full Water Bottle Through TSA?
Full water bottles are not allowed through the security checkpoint. TSA rules require all liquids, gels, and aerosols in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) to be placed in checked bags or discarded before screening. This includes bottled water, even if sealed.
How to Bring Water Through TSA Efficiently
Travelers can carry an empty bottle and refill it at a water fountain or filling station after the checkpoint. The TSA also allows medically necessary water in larger quantities, but you may need to declare it and expect additional screening. For official guidance, visit the TSA water bottle page.
