Charlene Princess of Monaco Wedding

Charlene Princess of Monaco married Prince Albert II in a civil ceremony on 1 July 2011, followed by a religious ceremony on 2 July 2011. The events took place in Monaco, with the civil ceremony at the Palace Throne Room and the religious ceremony at the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate.

Background and Pre-Wedding Events

Charlene Wittstock, a South African Olympic swimmer, met Prince Albert at the Mare Nostrum swimming competition in Monaco in 2000. Their engagement was announced in April 2010. Before the wedding, Charlene spent several weeks in South Africa for medical treatment, which led to a brief postponement of some planned events.

Wedding Ceremony and Attendees

The civil ceremony was conducted by Monaco Mayor Georges Marsan. The religious ceremony was led by Archbishop Bernard Barsi. Guests included European royals and dignitaries. The couple later appeared on the Palace balcony following the events.

Post-Wedding Life

Charlene and Prince Albert have twins, Gabriella and Jacques, born in December 2014. Jacques is the heir apparent to the Monegasque throne. The couple continue to represent Monaco at official events and charitable initiatives.
