Daenerys and Jon Snow Family Tree Overview
Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow share a direct family connection through the Targaryen dynasty. Daenerys is the daughter of King Aerys II Targaryen and Queen Rhaella. Jon Snow is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, making him Daenerys's nephew. This lineage places both characters at the center of the Targaryen claim to the Iron Throne.
Key Ancestors and Lineage
The Targaryen family tree traces back through Aerys II to Aegon V and ultimately to Aegon the Conqueror, the dynasty's founder. Daenerys descends from Aerys II, while Jon descends from Rhaegar, Aerys's son. Their shared ancestry explains their strong Targaryen features and their ties to dragons and Valyrian heritage. For a detailed breakdown of the lineage, see the Game of Thrones wiki.
How the Connection Shapes the Story
The revelation of Jon's true parentage redefines the political and personal stakes in the series. Daenerys becomes Jon's aunt, and Jon becomes the legitimate heir to the Targaryen throne ahead of Daenerys. This family relationship fuels key conflicts and alliances, influencing decisions about loyalty, power, and the future of Westeros.
