Who Was Danny Rolling

Danny Rolling was an American serial killer responsible for the 1990 Gainesville murders. He attacked five students in their apartments, drawing media attention for the brutality and randomness of the crimes. His nickname, the Gainesville Ripper, became widely used in news coverage and later in popular culture.

The Ghostface Connection

The nickname Ghostface became associated with Rolling through later references in true crime media and online discussions. The name gained broader recognition with the release of the Scream horror film franchise, which features a killer wearing a Ghostface mask. While Rolling had no direct link to the films, his case is often cited in articles about real crimes that influenced horror culture.

Rolling was arrested after investigators linked evidence to him and he confessed to the murders. He was convicted and sentenced to death in Florida, where he remained on death row until his execution in 2006. His case is documented in court records and true crime sources, including the Florida Department of Corrections.
