Who Are Elizabeth Smart Parents
Elizabeth Smart parents are Edward "Ed" Smart and Lois Smart, who raised her in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ed worked as a security director, and Lois was a homemaker focused on family and community activities.
Role in the Abduction and Recovery
On June 5, 2002, Elizabeth was abducted from her home by Brian David Mitchell. Her parents reported the crime, helped police, and later participated in the search. After nine months, Elizabeth was found alive with Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee.
Public Advocacy and Continued Impact
Following the rescue, Elizabeth and her parents became advocates for child safety and abduction awareness. Ed and Lois Smart have spoken publicly about their experience, supported legislation, and worked with organizations to help families and victims.
