Gypsy Rose Blanchard Prison Confessions

Gypsy Rose Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016 for the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. In court, she admitted she was not physically disabled and had helped her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, carry out the murder. Her confessions described years of medical fraud and abuse by her mother.

Details of the Guilty Plea and Sentence

Blanchard testified that she and Godejohn planned the murder after she tried to leave home. She said her mother controlled her health, finances, and daily life. Prosecutors accepted her guilty plea and sentenced her to 10 years in prison, with credit for time served. Godejohn separately pleaded guilty and received a life sentence.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison in December 2023 after serving about seven years. Her early release followed Missouri’s parole guidelines and her guilty plea. She remains on supervised release and has spoken publicly about her case. More details are available on the Missouri Department of Corrections website.
