Who Are Haitian Immigrants in Texas
Haitian immigrants in Texas are U.S. residents born in Haiti or children of Haitian-born parents. Many live in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. They often work in service industries, construction, healthcare support, and small business sectors, according to migration data.
Why Texas Attracts Haitian Immigrants
Texas offers established Haitian communities, affordable housing in some metro areas, and job networks. Family reunification and existing cultural institutions, such as churches and community organizations, also draw new arrivals. Proximity to ports of entry and existing migration routes further support settlement.
Economic and Social Contributions
Haitian immigrants in Texas contribute through labor, entrepreneurship, and local spending. They open restaurants, retail shops, and service businesses. Remittances sent to Haiti support households abroad, while local tax payments fund public services. Community groups help with language access, legal aid, and job training.
