Early Origins

UPS began in 1907 when 19-year-old James E. Casey borrowed $100 in Seattle, Washington, and founded the American Messenger Company. The company initially delivered packages, messages, and groceries on foot and by bicycle, focusing on reliable same-day service for local retailers and department stores.

Growth and Expansion

In the 1910s and 1920s, the company expanded its fleet with motorcycles and delivery cars, later renaming itself United Parcel Service. By the 1930s, UPS had extended service to New York City and other major urban areas, establishing centralized hubs and standardized delivery routes that improved speed and tracking.

Becoming a Global Logistics Leader

During the second half of the 20th century, UPS invested in air cargo, international networks, and advanced technology, transforming into a global logistics provider. Today, UPS operates in more than 220 countries and territories, handling millions of packages daily and offering supply chain and freight solutions for businesses worldwide.
