How Many Batmen Have There Been
Across DC Comics continuity, numerous characters have taken on the Batman identity, with Bruce Wayne as the primary and most recognized holder of the role.
Notable Batmen in Comics and Media
In addition to Bruce Wayne, prominent alternate versions include Terry McGinnis from the future timeline of Batman Beyond, and alternate-universe iterations such as Thomas Wayne and the dark knight from the Flashpoint storyline.
On screen, actors including Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and Robert Pattinson have portrayed Bruce Wayne in major live-action films, while Kevin Conroy and Will Arnett are among the voice actors who have defined Batman for animation and video games.
Why the Number of Batmen Matters
The existence of multiple Batmen reflects DC's long history of alternate timelines, legacy storytelling, and multiverse concepts, which expand the character's reach across comics, film, television, and games.
