Current Oldest Living Dog
As of 2025, the oldest verified living dog is Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal. Bobi was born on May 11, 1992, making him 32 years old, according to the Guinness World Records. His age has been validated through veterinary documentation and official verification processes.
Previous Record Holders
Before Bobi, the longest-lived dog was Bluey, an Australian Cattle Dog who lived to 29 years and 5 months. Other notable dogs include Adjutant, a Labrador Retriever verified at 27 years and 98 days, and Buksan, a Beagle recognized for exceptional longevity. These records are based on documented birth and death dates.
Factors That Support Longevity
Large breeds typically live 8 to 12 years, while small breeds often reach 12 to 18 years. Mixed-breed dogs sometimes live longer due to genetic diversity. Regular veterinary care, balanced nutrition, moderate exercise, and safe living conditions contribute to longer lifespans. Early detection of health issues also improves outcomes.
