Who Is Irv Gotti and What Is The Inc?
Irv Gotti is a record producer and music executive who founded Murder Inc. (often styled as The Inc), a hip-hop and R&B label and production collective. The Inc is known for working with artists such as Ja Rule and Ashanti, and for its role in late-1990s and 2000s urban music releases.
How The Inc Operated as a Label and Production Unit
The Inc functioned as both a record label and a production team, handling artist development, beat production, and project coordination. It operated under distribution deals with major labels, allowing it to release music while leveraging larger label infrastructure for promotion and sales tracking.
Business and Financial Context of The Inc
From a finance perspective, The Inc generated revenue through record sales, licensing, and publishing royalties. Industry reports and court filings have documented its contracts, royalty flows, and distribution agreements, offering a view of how independent hip-hop labels managed income and expenses during that era.
