The Crimes and Victims

Between 1944 and 1949, Haigh murdered six people, including wealthy acquaintances he had befriended. He lured victims to a workshop, shot them, and then placed the bodies in a barrel filled with concentrated sulfuric acid. He stole their identities and assets to fund a fraudulent lifestyle.

Investigation, Trial, and Legacy

Police linked Haigh to the murders through financial records, missing persons reports, and a surviving victim. In 1949, he was convicted and sentenced to death. Haigh was executed at Wandsworth Prison. His case remains a landmark in British criminal history and is documented by the Encyclopedia Britannica.
