How Long Was Joseph in Prison

According to the biblical narrative in Genesis, Joseph was imprisoned for approximately two years after interpreting the cupbearer's dream. He had been sold into slavery by his brothers and later imprisoned on false charges.

Events Leading to Joseph's Release

While in prison, Joseph interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh's cupbearer and baker. The cupbearer was restored to his position, but initially forgot Joseph. After two years, Pharaoh had troubling dreams that no one could interpret, prompting the cupbearer to remember Joseph.

Joseph's Rise After Prison

Joseph was quickly brought before Pharaoh and successfully interpreted the dreams as seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. He was appointed vizier of Egypt, a position of immense authority and wealth.
