Role of the Kicker for the New York Giants
The kicker is responsible for field goal and extra point attempts, plus kickoffs. A reliable kicker can directly impact game outcomes by adding points and pinning opponents deep. The Giants have used this position to decide close contests in the NFL.
Recent Kicker History and Roster Changes
New York has cycled through several kickers in recent seasons as coaches pursued consistency. Teams often evaluate accuracy, leg strength, and clutch performance when signing or releasing a kicker. The Giants have adjusted their roster based on performance and salary cap considerations.
Salary Cap and Financial Impact
Kicker contracts are typically short and relatively low compared with other positions, but they still count against the salary cap. Cap space management influences roster decisions, and teams may prioritize cost control at kicker while investing elsewhere.
