Early Life and Background

John Wayne Gacy was born on March 17, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a troubled household and later moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he worked as a contractor and became involved in local community events.

Crimes and Victims

Gacy was convicted of murdering 33 young men and boys between 1972 and 1978. He lured victims, often through his construction business, and committed the crimes at his home in Norwood Park Township, Illinois. His crimes remained largely undetected for years.

Gacy was arrested in December 1978, tried, and sentenced to death in 1980. He spent years on death row until his execution in 1994. His case has been widely documented and remains one of the most notorious serial killer cases in U.S. history, as detailed by the FBI’s behavioral analysis resources.
