What Is a Nora Cat?
A Nora cat is a pedigreed cat originating from Russia, also known as the Neva Masquerade. It is a colorpoint variety of the Siberian cat, recognized for its striking blue eyes and dark points on the face, ears, paws, and tail. The breed is medium to large with a sturdy build and a semi-longhaired coat.
Nora Cat History and Origin
The Nora cat shares its roots with the Siberian cat, a natural breed from Siberia, Russia. The colorpoint version appeared in Siberian breeding programs and was named Neva Masquerade after the Neva River and the mask-like color pattern. The breed is accepted by several cat registries and is considered a natural Siberian variant rather than a separate breed.
Nora Cat Care and Cost
Caring for a Nora cat involves regular grooming to prevent matting, a balanced diet, routine veterinary visits, and mental stimulation through play. The cost of a Nora kitten typically ranges from several hundred to over a thousand dollars, depending on breeder reputation, location, and pedigree. Potential owners should also consider ongoing expenses such as food, litter, and healthcare.
