How Oscar Awards Nominees Are Chosen
Oscar awards nominees are selected by voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Each branch votes only in its category, such as actors voting for acting nominees. The process uses ranked-choice voting to determine the final list of nominees for most awards.
Categories and Nominee Rules
Major Oscar categories include Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Some awards, like Best International Feature, have different submission rules. The Academy sets annual eligibility windows and submission deadlines that films must meet to be considered for nomination.
Where to Find Official Oscar Nominee Lists
For the most current and complete lists, the Academy publishes official nominee announcements on its website. You can also follow verified entertainment news outlets for updates on nominations, voting results, and ceremony details.
