Queen Elizabeth II was 25 years old when she was crowned on 2 June 1953. She acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952 at age 25, following the death of her father, King George VI.

Coronation Date and Ceremony

The coronation took place at Westminster Abbey in London. It was the first British coronation to be televised, allowing millions to watch the ceremony live.

Elizabeth became queen while visiting Kenya, making her the first monarch to accede while abroad since George I. Her coronation marked the beginning of a reign that lasted more than 70 years.
