Notable Relatives in the NFL
The NFL features many family connections across generations. Peyton and Eli Manning are brothers who both became starting quarterbacks and Super Bowl champions. The Manning family tree includes Archie Manning, their father, who also played in the league.
Other prominent relatives include the McCourty twins, Devin and Jason, who played cornerback together for the New England Patriots. The Matthews family features Clay Matthews Jr., a Pro Bowl linebacker, and his son Clay Matthews III, who continued the defensive tradition with the Green Bay Packers.
How Family Ties Affect NFL Careers
Relatives in the NFL often benefit from early exposure to professional training, coaching, and high-level competition. Shared genetics can influence size, speed, and durability, while family connections provide access to mentors and scouting networks.
Young players sometimes face extra pressure when they carry a family name. Scouts and fans compare them to older relatives, which can shape expectations and media coverage from the first day of training camp.
Current and Emerging NFL Family Connections
Today, the league continues to see brothers, fathers, and sons on rosters. The Kelce brothers, Travis and Jason, both play key roles for the Kansas City Chiefs, with Travis as a top tight end and Jason as a center.
