City Government Structure
Savannah operates under a council-manager form of government. The Savannah City Council includes a mayor and aldermen elected from single-member districts. The council appoints a city manager to oversee daily administration and implement policy.
Key Policy Areas
Local politics in Savannah focus on public safety, infrastructure, housing affordability, and economic development. City officials manage zoning, permitting, and long-term planning for growth in the historic district and surrounding neighborhoods. Budget decisions shape funding for roads, parks, and public services.
Elections and Civic Participation
Municipal elections determine the mayor and aldermen who represent Savannah residents. Voters decide on local ballot measures and candidates aligned with specific policy priorities. Residents can engage through public meetings, city commissions, and official channels for comments and records.
