Who Was Scott Falater

Scott Falater was a former software engineer and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived in Arizona with his wife and children and was known professionally for his work in technology before his arrest.

What Happened in the Case

In February 1997, police responded to a report of a stabbing at the Falater home. His wife, Yarmila Falater, was found dead from multiple stab wounds. Scott Falater was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Trial and Outcome

During the trial, prosecutors argued that the attack was premeditated and that the couple had been experiencing marital problems. The defense presented evidence suggesting that Falater may have been sleepwalking at the time of the incident. In 1999, a jury found Scott Falater guilty of first-degree murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case remains a notable example of how sleepwalking defenses are treated in homicide trials.
