What Is Stockin

Stockin refers to a company dividing its existing shares into multiple shares to lower the price per share. This process, also called a stock split, increases the total number of shares while keeping the overall market value the same. Investors hold the same proportional ownership before and after the split.

How a Stock Split Works

In a typical split, a company exchanges each current share for a set number of new shares. For example, in a 2-for-1 split, every share becomes two shares, and the price per share is roughly halved. The company’s total capitalization remains unchanged, but shares trade at a lower per-share price.

Why Stock Splits Happen

Companies often split stock to make shares more affordable for retail investors and improve trading liquidity. A lower price per share can attract a broader range of buyers and reduce the per-trade cost for small investors. Splits are usually announced after strong price appreciation and are seen as a signal of confidence, though they do not change the company’s fundamentals.
