How Intelligence Is Measured
Intelligence is often assessed with standardized IQ tests. These tests compare a person's reasoning, memory, and problem-solving skills against a large sample of the population. A high score suggests strong cognitive abilities, but it does not capture creativity, emotional awareness, or practical skills.
Notable High-IQ Individuals
Several people are frequently cited for exceptionally high IQ scores. William James Sidis is one example often mentioned in popular lists. Another frequently referenced figure is Terence Tao, a mathematician with an estimated IQ above 220. You can read more about high-IQ individuals and records on the Guinness World Records website here.
Why There Is No Single Answer
There is no universally agreed-upon "smartest person." IQ tests have limits, and different tests use different scales. In addition, intelligence includes many forms, such as logical, verbal, spatial, and social intelligence. Because of this complexity, any single ranking remains an approximation rather than a definitive fact.
