What Is TPO Gel Nail Polish

TPO gel nail polish is a gel-based nail product made with trimethylbenzoyl diphenyl phosphine oxide as a photoinitiator. It cures under UV or LED lamps to form a hard, glossy layer. TPO formulas are designed to stay flexible, which helps reduce chipping and lifting compared with some traditional gel polishes.

How TPO Gel Polish Differs From Other Gel Formulas

Unlike older gel polishes that rely on HEMA or camphor, TPO-based formulas often contain fewer strong solvents and may produce less odor during curing. The TPO photoinitiator allows the polish to harden quickly under light while remaining clear and stable. This can make it easier to apply thin, even coats without excessive dripping or bubbling.

Application, Durability, and Removal

TPO gel polish is applied in thin layers, with each coat cured under a UV or LED lamp for the time recommended by the brand. A top coat adds shine and helps protect the color. With proper preparation and curing, TPO gel manicures can last one to three weeks without significant chipping. Removal usually involves soaking nails in acetone or using an acetone-based gel remover to gently lift the cured polish.
