Who Is the Vancouver Attack Perpetrator
The Vancouver attack perpetrator refers to the individual identified by police and prosecutors in connection with the fatal vehicle and knife attack near the Vancouver Art Gallery in April 2023. Authorities confirmed the suspect as Alex Minassian, a 28-year-old man with a prior criminal record and known mental health history.
Background and Prior Record
Court documents and police reports describe Minassian as a Canadian man with a long history of violent offenses, including prior convictions for assault and weapons charges. Investigators noted that he had been in and out of correctional facilities and mental health institutions for years before the attack.
Official Findings and Charges
After the incident, police arrested Minassian at the scene and charged him with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors stated that the attack was carried out using a rented van and a knife, and that Minassian acted alone. Court records and official statements confirm that he was found unfit to stand trial at an initial stage and was later deemed fit following a psychiatric assessment.
