What Day Is Mardi Gras Day
Mardi Gras day is the final day of Carnival, celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday. Because Easter shifts each year, Mardi Gras day moves between early February and early March.
How the Date Is Determined
The date depends on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. Ash Wednesday is 46 days before Easter, so Mardi Gras day is always 47 days before Easter Sunday. For the official explanation, see timeanddate.com Easter calculator.
