Original Pentatonix Lineup and Formation

Pentatonix formed in Arlington, Texas, in 2011 as a five-member a cappella group. The original lineup featured Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Avi Kaplan, and Kevin Olusola. The group first gained attention by winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC.

Avi Kaplan Departure and New Bass Voice

In 2017, Avi Kaplan announced he would be leaving Pentatonix to focus on his solo career as a folk and Americana artist. After his departure, Matt Sallee joined the group as the new bass vocalist. Kaplan continues to perform and release music independently.

Pentatonix Members Today and Current Projects

Today, Pentatonix continues as a quartet with Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, and Kevin Olusola. Each member remains active in music, with solo projects, collaborations, and regular touring. The group still releases albums and maintains a strong presence on YouTube.
