What Are the Hydes in Wednesday
In the Netflix series Wednesday, Hydes are humans who temporarily transform into monstrous versions of themselves. The term references the classic literary figure Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, symbolizing a split between outward respectability and hidden darkness.
Which Characters Become Hydes
Several students at Nevermore Academy experience Hyde transformations under stress or supernatural influence. Wednesday Addams herself briefly exhibits Hyde-like traits when pushed to her limits. Other key Hydes include Tyler Galpin, who becomes the Hyde creature linked to a series of attacks, and Bianca Barclay, whose transformation reveals deeper tensions within the school.
Why the Hydes Matter to the Story
The Hydes drive the central mystery of Wednesday by connecting unexplained violence to emotional triggers and secret identities. Their existence highlights themes of repression, identity, and the danger of suppressing true feelings. The show uses the Hydes to explore how trauma and supernatural forces can reshape behavior.
