Who Said Come on Down on The Price Is Right
Johnny Olson was the original announcer who said "Come on down" when welcoming contestants to The Price Is Right. He held the role from the show's premiere in 1972 until his death in 1985.
Announcers Who Replaced Johnny Olson
After Olson, Rod Roddy became the primary voice of the show and continued the "Come on down" tradition for many years. Later, Rich Fields and George Gray also served as announcers, each carrying the line forward during their respective tenures.
Why the Phrase Became Iconic
The phrase became a cultural catchphrase because it signaled a chance for audience members to become contestants on one of television's longest-running game shows. The line is closely tied to the show's format and its energetic studio atmosphere.
