What Is Whole30

Whole30 is a 30-day elimination diet designed to reset eating habits by removing specific food groups. The program focuses on whole, unprocessed foods while cutting out sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, soy, and dairy. It was created by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig Urban to help people identify food sensitivities and change their relationship with food.

How the Whole30 Program Works

During the 30 days, participants eat meals built around meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables, fruits, and natural fats. The plan discourages added sugar, artificial sweeteners, and processed ingredients. After the elimination phase, foods are reintroduced one at a time to observe how the body responds. The official rules and food list are detailed on the program website whole30.com.

Foods Allowed and Restricted on Whole30

Allowed foods include vegetables, fruits, unprocessed meats, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, and certain oils like olive and coconut oil. Restricted foods include grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, alcohol, and additives such as carrageenan and sulfites. The goal is to simplify the diet and observe how specific foods affect energy, digestion, and overall well-being.
