Economic and Workplace Challenges

Women continue to face a persistent gender pay gap. According to the World Economic Forum, women globally earn roughly 80 cents for every dollar earned by men for similar work. This gap widens for women of color and grows over a career, reducing lifetime earnings and retirement savings.

Unpaid Care and Domestic Labor

Women perform the majority of unpaid care and household work. The International Labour Organization reports women spend about 2.6 times more hours on unpaid care than men. This invisible labor limits paid work hours, career advancement, and access to financial independence.

Access to Capital and Financial Services

Women often have a harder time obtaining loans, credit, and investment capital. The World Bank notes that women-owned businesses are more likely to be denied financing or receive smaller loan amounts. Without equal access to capital, starting and scaling a business becomes more difficult.

Understanding these barriers helps frame policy discussions and personal strategies. For more data on gender gaps in work and pay, see the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report at Global Gender Gap Report.
