Alexandra Trusova's Olympic Result
Alexandra Trusova did not win the Olympic gold medal in women's figure skating at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. She placed second and received the silver medal behind Anna Shcherbakova. Trusova landed a historic quad jump in her free skate but lost the title on the overall scoring system.
Why Alexandra Trusova Did Not Win Gold
The result was decided by the International Judging System, which combines technical element scores and program component scores. Shcherbakova skated a clean, technically solid free program with higher component marks. Judges rewarded consistency and presentation, which gave Shcherbakova the narrow edge in total points despite Trusova's difficult quad jumps.
Background and Context
Trusova was the favorite after setting world records in the short program and free skate at the Russian test events. At the Olympics, she attempted multiple quads but had small errors that affected her execution grades. The tight scoring margin highlighted how Olympic figure skating balances difficulty with clean execution and artistic performance.
Aftermath and Olympic Figure Skating Scoring
Trusova's performance sparked debate about the value of quad jumps under the current judging rules. The International Skating Union uses a detailed panel to score technical elements and components. Official results and scoring breakdowns are published by the ISU at https://www.isuresults.com.
