Current Status of Lord of the Rings Films
As of now, there are no officially announced theatrical Lord of the Rings movies beyond the existing trilogy and The Hobbit series. Amazon’s Prime Video series, The Rings of Power, is the primary new Tolkien project set in Middle-earth.
Rights and Production Control
The Tolkien Estate controls the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Embracer Group’s Middle-earth Enterprises manages licensing, while Amazon holds streaming rights for its TV series. Any major new films would require agreements with these parties.
Future Movie Possibilities
No studio has confirmed new Lord of the Rings films. Future projects depend on rights negotiations, studio interest, and Tolkien family approval. For updates on rights and productions, visit the official Tolkien website.
