What Is "The Summer I Turned Pretty" About
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is a coming-of-age romance by Jenny Han. The story follows Belly Conklin, who spends summers at a beach house with her mother and brother. The narrative centers on her evolving feelings for the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, during a pivotal summer of change.
Wilmington as the Setting
While the novels do not explicitly name Wilmington, the fictional beach town closely resembles coastal North Carolina. The series emphasizes a relaxed beach-town atmosphere, family traditions, and nostalgic summer routines. Wilmington, North Carolina, shares similar coastal characteristics, including historic architecture, nearby beaches, and a walkable waterfront.
Book vs. Television Adaptation
The Amazon Prime Video adaptation expands the story with more scenes set in a coastal town inspired by the Carolina coast. The show highlights local venues, boardwalk settings, and seasonal events that evoke a classic summer destination.
