What Is the World Trade Center Waterfall?

The World Trade Center waterfall refers to the memorial pools at the National September 11 Memorial in New York City. Designed by architect Michael Arad, the pools sit within the footprints of the original Twin Towers and feature large square waterfalls cascading into sunken basins.

Design and Symbolism

The memorial, often called Reflecting Absence, uses water to represent loss and renewal. Bronze panels around the edges list the names of victims from the 1993 and 2001 attacks. The surrounding plaza includes trees and open space, creating a quiet area for reflection within the rebuilt World Trade Center complex.

Visitor Information and Access

The memorial is free and open daily to the public. It is located at the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, near transit hubs and major offices. For current hours and visitor guidelines, see the official National September 11 Memorial & Museum website at National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
