Who Were Yolanda and Selena

Yolanda Saldivar was the founder of Selena Etc., a fan club and boutique managed by Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla. Selena, known as the "Queen of Tejano Music," was one of the most popular Latin artists in the United States during the 1990s.

What Happened Between Them

In early 1995, Selena and her family discovered financial discrepancies in Selena Etc. They confronted Saldivar, who was later accused of embezzling funds. On March 31, 1995, Selena met Saldivar at a motel in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she was shot. Selena died from her wounds at a local hospital.

What Happened After the Murder

Yolanda Saldivar was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. She was convicted in October 1995 and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. The case drew widespread media attention and highlighted issues of trust and financial management within small businesses.
